Be Involved

Become more involved in parish life while growing in your own faith.

The following is a list of the ways you can become more involved in parish life while growing in your own faith. New members and fresh ideas are always welcomed! For more information, to become involved, or to share an idea for a new ministry, please call 401-461-5734 or email the rectory.

Parish Ministries

ALTER SERVERS
Girls and boys who have received their First Eucharist can assist the priests at God’s Holy Altar. Training begins in the fall each year, but new servers are always welcomed. Servers are usually scheduled to serve at Mass every-other weekend, and may be asked to serve at funerals, weddings and other special liturgies. Please call the rectory 401.461.5734 or email for more information.

CHOIR
Director of Music Ministry, Jason Hervieux, leads the choir. To become involved with the Saint Paul Choir contact Jason Hervieux.

EUCHARISTIC  MINISTERS
Adults (and teens who have been Confirmed) serve by assisting the priests in the distribution of Holy Communion at weekend and daily liturgies.  Eucharistic ministers are usually scheduled to serve at one or two weekend Masses each month, and may be asked to serve at special liturgies. To become involved please contact Deacon Paul. New volunteers are always welcomed!

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERY
to the Sick and Homebound
Ministers of the Eucharist visit homebound parishioners and Roman Catholics in the Scandinavian Home on Sunday mornings after Mass. Please contact Deacon Paul to become involved in this special ministry. Parishioners who wish to receive the Eucharist at home either for a short or extended time are asked to contact the Rectory. Parish priests are available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation for homebound parishioners.

LECTORS
Adults (and teens who have been Confirmed) serve by proclaiming the Word of God at weekend and daily liturgies.  Lectors are typically scheduled to read at one or two weekend Masses each month.  New lectors are always needed and welcomed.  Please contact Deacon Paul.

USHERS
Ushers collect the offertory and assist as needed at parish liturgies. New volunteers are always welcomed! Please call the rectory 401.461.5734 or email for more information.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Men and women who knit serve in this ecumenical ministry to reach out to those in need of comfort and prayer.  On the first Friday of the month, from September – May, many of the knitters gather in the chapel of the Scandinavian Home for prayer, fellowship, knitting (or crocheting), and to replenish their supplies.  The knitting of prayer shawls or prayer squares (pocket-sized knitted squares) is done by volunteers at their leisure.  Twice a year all of the prayer shawls and squares are brought to Saint Paul Church for a special Mass, where they are blessed.  Anyone in need of a shawl or square to give to someone who needs comforting and prayer  – perhaps due to illness or the death of a loved one – can stop by the Scandinavian Home anytime and ask for the Chaplain, Mrs. Carol Huff (461-1433).  The prayer shawls and squares are available for FREE.  Donations of yarn, knitting or crocheting needles, or money are always gratefully accepted.

Committees and Groups

YOUTH GROUP
The youth group is open to all young people in grades 6-12.  Activities, service, and prayer come together in a fun way at each gathering. Meetings usually take place on the last Sunday of the month at 6:30PM. New members are always welcomed!  Contact Mrs. Bradley for more information.

LITURGY COMMITTEE
Members of the parish work with the pastor to create and plan special liturgies throughout the year. Decorating the church for Christmas and Easter is a special joy for members of this committee. Please call the rectory 401.461.5734 or email for more information.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE
An active group that encourages parishioner participation through a wide variety of opportunities relating to respect for human life. A pro-life Mass is celebrated at 7:00AM the first Saturday of every month. The committee invites informed speakers to educate about life issues. Past topics have included capital punishment, legislative concerns for Catholics and end of life issues. A Rosary Network is in place whereby parishioners commit to praying the Rosary one day each month for the cause of life. The committee also organizes charitable activities each year. Please contact Father Young for more information or to become involved.

R.C.I.A. TEAM
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults prepares adults for initiation into the life of the Church. Parish volunteers work with Deacon Paul Shea, who leads our parish R.C.I.A. Team, helping to educate, support and welcome these new members into the Church.

GIVING TREE VOLUNTEERS
The Giving Tree is an important tradition of the Advent season at Saint Paul Church. Volunteers work with parish staff to make paper ornaments labeled with gift suggestions, decorate the tree, and collect, sort and distribute gifts as they are returned. Watch for announcements in the parish bulletin and on the website to find out when and how to participate. Please call the rectory 401.461.5734 or email for more information.

LEGION OF MARY
The Legion of Mary is a world-wide association of Catholic laity who are especially devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity, whose concern is the spiritual and social welfare of all people. Members of the St. Paul praesidium (chapter) meet each week on Saturday at 10:30AM for prayer, discussion and planning. They commit themselves to two hours of apostolic work per week by visiting and calling “shut-ins” or nursing home patients. New members are always welcomed!  Please contact Father Young for more information or to become involved.

ST. VINCENT DePAUL SOCIETY AND FOOD PANTRY
Through parish collections, members of the Society provide temporary assistance to those in need and work in collaboration with neighborhood churches to support our ecumenical food pantry. Please call the rectory 401.461.5734 or email for more information.

VACATION BIBLE CAMP
Vacation Bible Camp is an opportunity for kids to have fun while learning and growing together in faith. Scripture stories come to life, exciting games are played outdoors, there are movies, crafts, music, snacks and loads of fun. All of this is tied together by a theme, which changes each year. Camp is held for one week in late June or early July, from 8:30-11:30AM. Camp is open to children who are entering KG through grade 5. Middle school and high school students are encouraged to join in the fun as crew leaders and station assistants. Adult volunteers are always needed to plan, decorate and facilitate the camp. Please contact Mrs. Bradley for more information or to become involved.
